Blood Sample Collection
The decision regarding blood sampling and the extent of blood parameter examinations is made by the physician in our clinic. They will electronically issue a requisition visible to the nurse in our system, eliminating the need for printing.
Without the physician’s indication, the nurse cannot proceed with the sampling. If certain samples are recommended by an external physician from other clinics (such as an orthopedist or neurologist), it is necessary for them to issue a requisition for you to schedule the sampling with us. The results will then be evaluated by the physician who recommended them.
Blood samples are collected daily between 7:30 and 11:30. You can schedule your appointment via Emmy by selecting the blood sampling request (during vacations and illnesses, appointments are required). Sampling is conducted by our nurse in the clinic on the 1st floor (or directly on the 2nd floor during vacations and illnesses). You will be directed by the receptionist or signage on the doors.
Samples are processed in our partner laboratory, and results are promptly delivered electronically, making this the simplest and fastest way for both examination and result delivery. Please use our laboratory services when indicated by our physician.
Preparation for Blood Sampling
Patients should come for sampling after:
-
Fasting for 12 hours
-
Having a light dinner the night before
-
Avoiding fatty and heavy foods
-
Refraining from consuming alcohol the night before sampling
-
Drinking only water or unsweetened tea in the morning (no breakfast)
-
Avoiding exercise in the morning before sampling and refraining from smoking
Before the actual sampling, it is advisable to sit quietly in the waiting room for about 5 minutes and not rush in at the last moment. During sampling, patients can choose to sit or lie on a couch. Blood is usually drawn from a vein in the elbow crease or the back of the hand.
For patients taking thyroxine medication (Euthyrox, Letrox), it is essential not to take the medication in the morning before the thyroid hormone examination. If examining any other blood parameter requires a special regimen, the physician will provide that information.
If you are allergic to plasters or disinfectants, please inform the nurse before sampling. After blood sampling, you can eat; we especially recommend that diabetics have food with them. We advise relative rest following the sampling, avoiding excessive physical exertion and heavy lifting.
The request type “take blood for everything” is not relevant or particularly beneficial. Blood sampling, similar to X-ray or sonographic examinations (and many other diagnostic methods), is supplementary. The foundation of effective treatment is a correct diagnosis, which relies on the physical examination of the patient and the analysis of their medical history as communicated to the physician.
If you insist on examining specific blood parameters not indicated by the physician and justified from a medical perspective, blood sampling can be performed at the full expense of the applicant. In this case, we cannot guarantee the interpretation of the results or their contribution to further treatment. Tumor markers, due to their high inaccuracy in preventive samplings, are not included even in the self-payer regime.
The price of sampling is based on the current price list plus the cost of individually requested examined parameters, as governed by the laboratory’s price list.
