Medical Assessment for Driving Fitness
Please schedule your examination at Emmy website.
Submit all required attachments beforehand to speed up administrative processing; in the office, you’ll only need to sign everything. Similar to other examinations, the first part is conducted by a nurse, followed by an examination with the doctor.
Important: Bring your glasses or hearing aid if you use them, and a urine sample in a test tube (available at our reception or pharmacies). If you’ve had prior lab tests, including urine, a new sample isn’t necessary.
The applicant bears the examination cost, as per the current price list.
Conditions affecting medical fitness for driving can be found here.
The doctor may require further examination results, and, if necessary, may order specialized examinations (e.g., by a diabetologist, ophthalmologist, neurologist, or traffic psychologist) according to Decree No. 277/2004 Coll.
Driving School Admission Examination
Applicants for driving school admission must provide a medical fitness certificate for driving, issued within three months of the application date.
Medical Examinations for Drivers Aged 65 and Above
Drivers aged 65 or older with categories A, B, or T licenses must undergo medical assessments at least six months before turning 65, 68, and then every two years thereafter. The validity is calculated from the last examination date.
The doctor may recommend shorter intervals for further examinations depending on health status.
Examinations for Category C, C+E, D, or D+E License Holders
Drivers with categories C, C+E, D, or D+E licenses must have an annual medical examination after turning 50. Before age 50, these are required every two years. A medical examination and fitness assessment are mandatory even if the license is used only for personal purposes; in some cases, a traffic psychological examination is also necessary.
Note: The certificate for work-related driving is issued by the company doctor.
Harmonized Codes
Harmonized and national codes, which condition or limit driving licenses or professional driver qualifications, are listed in Annex No. 5 to Decree No. 31/2001 Coll. They can be found under point 12 in the driver’s license.
More details are available here.
Traffic Psychological Examination
a) Returning a Driver’s License
Traffic psychological examinations follow a general practitioner’s examination (within 30 days) and are mandatory for individuals who lost their license due to:
• Reaching 12 points on the point-based assessment,
• A court or administrative driving ban, or
• Conditional agreements during probation.
The psychologist must be provided with a health assessment and an extract from the driver’s register (both within 30 days). A driving test may be required if the ban exceeded one year.
b) For Holders of Licenses for Groups C, D, and E
Drivers with licenses in groups C, C+E, C1+E, D, D+E, D1+E must undergo a psychological evaluation before commencing activities, six months before turning 50, and every five years thereafter. This requirement does not apply to private drivers in these groups unless driving for remuneration. The evaluation is conducted by an accredited psychologist.
A list of Prague-accredited psychologists is available here.
